Election timetable released for 2011

Nigeria's election umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has unveiled the dates for the 2011 general elections in the country.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said the presidential election would take place on 9 April, 2011, while those for the National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assemblies elections would take place between 2 and 16 April, 2011.
Giving details of the timetable, the INEC chief said the conduct of political party primaries had been fixed for 26 November, 2010, to 15 January, 2011; campaigns by political parties to begin on 1 December, 2010; collection of forms CF0 0 1 and CF002 commences on 15-22 January, 2011; registration of voters from 15 - 29 January, 2011; display of voters register for claims and objection between 3-8 February, 2011; last day for submission of forms CF001 and CF002 t o the INEC headquarters is 31 January, 2011.
Jega said the publication of personal particulars of candidates, contained in form CF001 for all elections, is scheduled for 6 February, 2011, and the last days for withdrawal by candidates and substitution of withdrawn candidates by political parties for National Assembly is scheduled for 14 February, 2011.
Jegan indicated that the last day for the withdrawal by candidates/substitution of withdrawn candidates by political parties in respect of presidential election is 21 February, 2011, while the last day for withdrawal by candidates/ substitution of withdrawn candidates by political parties in respect of the Governorship/ State Assembly election is scheduled for 28 February, 2011.
The publication of official voter register is scheduled for 2 March, 2011 and the publication of the list of nominated candidates is scheduled for 2 March, 2011, while the submission of the list of party agents to INEC headquarters is scheduled for 25 March, 2011, he said.
On campaigns, Jega disclosed that the last day for campaigns for the National Assembly is 1 April, 2011; that for the President is 8 April and the Governorship/State Assemblies 15 April.
The INEC boss said run-off vote for the office of the Governor and office of the President (if any) would be held within seven days after the announcement of the result, but warned that there would be no campaigns 24 hours before or on election days. (PANA)
